Some progress

Been working on this track for quite a while. I'm really happy with how the mixing and edits turned out, but my structure needs a lot of work. While the edits are good, they are too sudden and don't flow well like a good dance track should. The song also needs more direction, when I can manage that I'll be able to structure everything properly and make it longer.

Some Deadmau5 rip off I made.

sounds more like a Ke$ha track though...

where the beats happen

Finished my cover of Da Funk.

Took me all day to get it done, it's not perfect but I learned a lot in the process. Did a lot of reading about sound design using synthesizers for a few weeks prior to working on this track and it's helping quite a bit, sure I'm trying to mimic a sound, but just being able to copy it by intuition and ear is exactly what I want to be doing. Besides learning patch nonsense, this track had me experimenting with a 909 drum machine and a 303 synth. I had a lot of trouble getting the 909 to sound right, but I had some help from a friend and that gave me a lot of insight and ideas for when I use it next. The emulator for the 303 I was using was ABL2 which is extremely easy to work with, just a basic sequencer and a few knobs, I had a lot of trouble getting the arrangement right on the sequencer but I think it's pretty close.

I may make some improvements to the track later, such as changing the lead synth patch, but right now I'll probably focus on learning how to use compression properly and some mixing techniques.

Heard one of the upcoming Colin Stetson tracks today

It's crazy how much I like his songs. It's all just one sax and a bunch of microphones, but every track feels so raw and human. I really hope more music comes out like this, Stetson is really on to something.

Wish I could find the words to describe how much I love Young Montana?

Software Synth Developers...

include an init patch please, it's a nice patch that everyone loves.

Teenage Riot

It's basically the perfect morning song. It starts out and you are like "ugh Kim Gordon" and then that riff kicks in and all you want to do is tackle the day. Makes me want to get things done, like blog posts and showers.

Well I got Artillery 2 working properly

Installed Artillery 2 recently and started using it with Ableton Live 8, I wasn't sure how to get it to record the effect changes onto the track but I figured that out today. It was pretty simple, just needed to make a midi track with Artillery 2 loaded and then have it receive sound from the track you want to manipulate. It's pretty cool for glitching in real time, but I'm not sure if I like it more than the dBlue Glitch and Effectrix sequencers, at least as far as sounds goes. Glitching in real time or at least not in a sequencer seems to be more advantageous because it offers more freedom, so I'll probably use it quite a bit.

Considering throwing some tape stops and some step loops at certain points in this track but from what I've been doing nothing really seems to work. I'll probably try and make some changes and post it here later.

Still really into Within Without

It's really well done, I think it's everything people expected in a Washed Out full-length. Production is clean but still has that lo-fi sound that was on his previous EP's, all of the samples and sounds were picked so well and blend together perfectly. Most of the songs still give off that italo-disco/new wave vibe and are slow, catchy, and sexy. The pace and flow of the album is so well done, really an essential album for anyone who is into chillwave, definitely one of my favorites of 2011.

SBTRKT

Bumped his album today, not a fan. Production was A+ but everything else was pretty forgettable. It was certainly likable but nothing stuck out besides how typical everything was. I enjoyed the track Pharaoh's because it was really dancable and reminded me of some early house music.
